From tackling the roughest terrain to collecting mud, water, and other debris, side-by-sides or UTVs get dirty very quickly. This is totally expected, but eventually, you’ll need to wash it all down, in order to prevent all that caked-on mud and water from damaging your UTV.

Here are a few helpful tips for cleaning your UTV!

Pre-Soak The Mud & Scrape

Find a good place to clean your UTV. The soap run-off will likely harm your grass, so it’s best to clean your UTV over concrete. Make sure that you hose down the sidewalk when you’re done and send all the dirty water down a sewer drain, to not dirty the street or your neighbor’s yard.

If there’s a lot of mud on your UTV, you’ll have to soak it and scrape it off before you can get to cleaning it. Plug up your exhaust to prevent water from getting into it, then hose down the whole vehicle to get the mud wet. Remember to use a plastic scraper on the dirt pieces. Alternatively, you can hose the mud repeatedly without scraping, but the process might take longer!

Pressure Wash Off The Grime

Once your UTV is free of its muddy coating, take a pressure washer to the underlying grime. UTVs are sturdy enough that the high intensity of a pressure washer shouldn’t damage it. A basic garden hose with a pressurized nozzle can also work if you don’t have the funds or need to purchase a pressure washer!

Add Soap & Scrub

Take a wash mitt or sponge with bike soap to scrub down your side-by-side. Work on the plastics, the seat, the frame, and the tires. Use a stiff brush to pick up dirt and oil residue that’s trapped in the small spaces of your UTV. A degreaser can help you to get oil residue off - just spray it on, wait, and wash it off!

Dry It Off

If the weather is nice enough, you can let your UTV air dry for a few hours in the sun. Otherwise, you can take it into your garage or shed to towel it off. If you want it dry quickly, use an air compressor to blast any excess water out of all your UTV’s crevices. The quicker you can get your UTV dried off, the more you reduce the risk of rust development!

Polishing

The last step in the cleaning process is to shine up your UTV. A spray-on plastic polish will make it look like you have a sparkling new UTV! Just remember to avoid getting polish on your seat, so that it doesn’t get slick and send you flying at high speeds.
