Dirt Bike Safety Tips
Dirt bike riding is a fun adventure, but it does come with inherent risks. After all, you’re heading out into unpredictable nature on a high-speed vehicle!
Set yourself up for a safe and successful trail ride by utilizing the following strategies.
Wear the Right Protective Gear
Always wear a helmet, goggles, long-sleeved shirt, long pants, over-the-ankle boots, gloves, and eye protection when riding a dirt bike. These items will provide valuable protection in the event of a crash.
Know Your Limits
Ride within your skill level on terrain that you can handle safely. Do not attempt to ride beyond what is comfortable for you or take risks at high speeds - you could end up severely injured!
Stay Alert
Be aware of your surroundings while riding and watch out for obstacles such as rocks, fallen branches, and ditches that may be in your path. Be mindful of other riders on the trail and give them plenty of room.
Watch Your Speed
Always keep an eye on your speed and never exceed the posted speed limits. If there are poor weather conditions, such as rain, you will want to adjust your speed accordingly.
Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water throughout your ride to stay hydrated and alert, especially during hot weather rides. Dehydration is not only uncomfortable - it can interfere with your ability to focus and stay safe.
Be Prepared for Breakdowns
Make sure you have a basic repair kit with you when riding so that you can make any necessary repairs if something goes wrong with your dirt bike. It could end up saving you a trip to the service department!
